In a way, camping has already been part of people’s lives since the beginning of time as many early people have lived in tents for hundreds of years now.  With the evolution of each recorded civilization, so as the way of building homes and homes become fastened in just one locality.  Because lots of people want to get away from the stressful and hectic life of cities, the urge to breath fresh air of the woodlands have turned lots of them camping regulars.

Every year, a lot of people are joining the camping craze whether they bring their camping vehicles or erecting tents.  Camping activities such as cooking and making shelter has become more quicker and convenient thanks to modern camping equipments.  The days of cooking in open bonfires have mostly been replaced with portable barbecue grills and propane fueled stoves whereas tents have gone from regular wooden poles and canvass to durable and flexible carbon fibre poles and water proof synthetic fabrics.

Preparing for camping has become easier and modern tents have played a part to this.  Camping equipments like these are essential whether it’s for backpacking, hiking, or camping.

Here are a few types of tents to choose from:

Pyramid Tents

The pyramid tent is the most simple where putting up two poles, covered by one big canvas and secure it on the ground with four stakes.  Its simplicity is favored by the hardy outdoorsmen and setting it up is relatively easy even for first-timers.  Tents like these, though, are more susceptible to bugs and insects which will be a factor to a very nasty camping experience.  Many manufacturers of camping gears have made pyramid tents that include entryways with zippers which also have synthetic fabric canvass and carbon fiber poles and rods.

Dome Tents

Dome tents have become a favorite and common form of tent among campers.  The ability to let rain water slide more effectivle and more faster is not its only advantage but it’s also designed to provide easier entrance and more headroom for its occupants compared to pyramid tents.  Regular dome tents are often erected using only two poles.  Other dome tents are modified to provide more durability and resilience against strong winds and heavy rains.  Additional rods and poles to its overall assembly makes it sturdier to the elements.

Tunnel Tents

Tunnel tents are tube-shaped tents where the entrance is usually wider and taller and gradually slopes down at the back.  Two rods come with tunnel tents as well but one is much longer than the other one but there are also varieties of single poles.  The major advantage of tunnel tents is that they are built lighter.  Built more compact, tunnel tents are the ideal type of tents for backpack tents

If you are new to tents, keeping it dry is essential to prevent moisture damage such as mold and mildew which not only make your tents discolored, but will also make them stinky and a potential health hazard.  It is also advisable to dry wet tents before storing them.  You can dry your tent by hanging it in a long clothesline and let the air dry it.  You can also dry it by sun but it’s important to know that ultraviolet rays from the sun can potentially damage the tent fabric.  It is recommended not to expose it for prolonged periods under the sun otherwise wear and tear from heat would gradually deteriorate the fabric.
