Some parents will actually raise their kids the same way that they were raised, something you should not do. Most of the time, this is an absolutely terrible mistake, unless of course your parents were perfect, which is probably not the case. Most of us were raised by parents who were well intentioned but didn’t always make the best choices. The idea isn’t to be different for its own sake, but to consciously choose areas where you could do better than your own parents. Choices are a great way to teach your child how to make positive and good decisions, while not focusing upon the negatives so much. For example, your child may be digging around in your freshly planted garden that you worked several days on. Bad choices can be averted by providing two or more good choices that the child can select from and make the situation better. By doing this, you now have control of the bad situation, and your child can make a good choice.
Depending upon how your child is raised, and both of your personalities, you will have different outcomes. A balance of self-control and discipline is necessary in your relationship with your children.
